The head of the Central Bank of Japan Haruhiko Kurod during the meeting of the parliament said that the regulator had not yet decided to launch digital yen. This is reported by Reuters.
According to Kuroda, the Japanese bank continues experiments with the digital currency of the Central Bank (CBDC) and will decide on the advisability of its launch by 2026 after consultations with the government and the private sector.
“The most important thing is that the idea will receive a sufficient understanding by the public,” he added.
Kurod also noted the need to cooperate with Europe and the USA in creating an international CBDC release standard.
